The COVID-19 pandemic turbocharged both trends – the growing need for mental health care and using technology to access it. In fact, mental health apps are a response to the demand from clients seeking more accessible therapy services. The old model of therapy, in which therapists and patients sat face to face, was already out of reach for many. In a June 2020 survey from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 40.9% of respondents reported at least one adverse mental or behavioral health condition, compared to only 19% in 2018. In the first year of the pandemic, rates of depression and anxiety increased by 25% worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. And through these apps, therapists are interacting with people who may never have considered therapy before. While those debates continue, people are regularly using apps to connect to therapists for help with emotional and mental struggles. We work with trauma of all varieties, including but not limited to: PTSD, complex PTSD, dissociative disorders, developmental trauma, sexual trauma, pre/perinatal trauma, epigenetic/ancestral trauma, domestic violence, medical trauma (including surgical and dental experiences), witnessing horrific events, relational trauma, motor vehicle accidents, physical falls.Real questions persist about how apps are regulated, how to ensure user privacy and care quality and how remote therapy can be reimbursed by insurance. We know that trauma is in your reaction to the event, not the event itself, so if it's enough to be disturbing you (intrusive thoughts, anxiety, panic attacks, avoiding things that remind you of the situation, nightmares, sleep disturbances, etc.) then it's worth working to help you find freedom from what is weighing you down. No matter what context you prefer to work in, our clinicians have 750+ hours of training in a variety of world-class, leading trauma resolution modalities (including Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, Brainspotting, Internal Family Systems, and trauma-sensitive hypnotherapy) and over 1500+ hours in mind-body modalities to help you find freedom from the things that have happened to you. By recognizing the importance of a holistic and integrative approach to the whole person, we allow the innate healing power within each of us to step forward on all levels: mind, body, and spirit. Our focus is on helping you find wholeness, resilience, and a greater sense of embodiment, and w e believe that the path to the most profound healing occurs when the whole person is addressed. Helping our clients find freedom, joy, and possibility in their lives is a great honor and we don’t take that responsibility lightly. You can insert almost anything in the place of trauma, and that sentence is still true: what has happened (or is happening to you) may be part of your story, but it doesn’t have to weigh you down any longer. While trauma recovery is our specialty, we know that simply being a human sometimes comes along with hard and difficult situations that may not seem big (or uncommon or abnormal) but can have a huge impact on your well-being. Regardless of whether you feel that “trauma” is the word that best fits your life story, we are passionate about helping our clients find freedom from the things that weigh them down.
